What is a Dental Bridge?

Dental bridges are oral appliances that contain the required number of pontics, or replacement teeth, to rebuild your smile. They include a dental crown on both ends, which are cemented to healthy abutment teeth or dental implants on each side of the gap in your grin.

These restorations are typically made from resilient ceramic that can be customized to resemble your natural teeth for seamless results that boost your confidence. This material is durable enough to last for 5 to 10+ years when cared for correctly.

Before proceeding with this service, you must consult Dr. Butler to ensure you’re a good candidate. Once our team has examined your mouth, we can provide a customized treatment plan to meet your unique needs based on our findings.

For instance, depending on your current dental condition, we might recommend one of the following options:

Traditional Dental Bridge

Standard dental bridges are anchored to healthy abutment teeth on each side of the space in your smile to close the distance between them. As a result, this solution may not be ideal for patients with more severely damaged or decayed enamel, who may be more likely to experience failure.

Implant Bridge

This option involves surgically placing two dental implant posts on each side of the space left by missing teeth to serve as supports for your dental bridge. It can take 3 to 6+ months to recover from the procedure, but then we can provide lifelike replacement teeth to attach to them. Dr. Butler has the advanced training and state-of-the-art equipment to place and restore implants in the office.

The Benefits of Getting a Dental Bridge

There are several excellent reasons to consider rebuilding your smile with a dental bridge, including:

  • Lifelike results. The tooth-colored materials reflect light like enamel and can be customized to match the size, shape, and shade of your natural teeth.
  • Improved enunciation. They function as artificial teeth to help you overcome any altered speech patterns, such as a lisp, caused by tooth loss.
  • Better bite force. You can more easily bite and chew a variety of wholesome foods to support your oral and overall well-being.
  • Enhanced confidence. With your beautiful new teeth secured in place, you can look and feel like the best version of yourself.
  • Prevent dental drifting. These appliances help ensure your remaining teeth stay in their rightful positions rather than drift out of place to fill in empty spaces, helping prevent damage, decay, and misalignment issues.
